Dispensaries Are Outnumbering Liquor Stores in Denver

The next time you’re walking around the city of Denver, we challenge you to close your eyes, spin in a circle, and point your finger straight in front of you. When you open your eyes, what are the chances you’ll be pointing toward a dispensary?

If you’ve ever been to Denver, you probably already know that the chances are pretty high. It feels like every corner has a dispensary within eyeshot, and with more than 445 dispensaries in the Denver area, this feeling may actually be a reality. In fact, dispensaries are beginning to outnumber liquor stores in Denver, and there’s no indication of this slowing down.

In December 2012, Colorado became one of the first states to legalize recreational marijuana. This historical moment drew in people from all over the country who wanted to be a part of the movement and experience the fun for themselves. Since then, dispensaries have been popping up all over Denver and the rest of Colorado. Even though other states have slowly started to follow Colorado’s lead with legalizing cannabis, the number of dispensaries in Denver only keeps growing.

While this may sound shocking, the reasons behind this are pretty unsurprising. Cannabis brings in hundreds of millions of dollars per year in tax revenue—$423 million in 2021 to be exact—for the state of Colorado. When the pandemic hit in 2020, sales reached record numbers. Alcohol has always been used as an escape during times of crisis, but people started trading in the bottles for something a little more natural: cannabis.

Mile High Dispensary is proud to have served the people of Denver during these tough times, and we’re not going anywhere! The next time you’re walking around Denver, don’t hesitate to stop by and chat with us about how cannabis can benefit your life.
